based on the best-selling memoir of the same name, telling the tale of Jean Dominique Bauby, the world renowned editor of French ELLE magazine, who suffered a stroke & was paralyzed by the the rare "locked in" syndrome with the only means of communicating with the outside world was by blinking his one working eye and through that seemingly irrelevant gesture, along with the help of several rather beautiful ladies, he produced the words that would form his memoir.
and the verdict is: it's a breathtaking & visually stunning film. Along with the ambitious but great cinematography of Janusz Kaminski and the use of the first person perspective, that clearly depict the internal life of Jean-Do, his world as seen through his one eye & his mind's eye (through his memories & surreal imaginations), giving the audiences an idea of life with a paralyzed body but with an aware mind & one functioning eye. An emotional, imaginative, humane, terrifying and funny treat that's powerful & inspiring.
a recommended watch indeed though it's in french but of course there's the english subtitled version.
